Plaatjes draaien met, ...

Een week te laat maar hier is ie! De nieuwe plaatsjes draaien met, .... Zoals gezegd vorige maand, deze keer was het de beurt aan mijn goede vriendin Ella om een afspeellijstje samen te stellen. Ik ken Ella van mijn studie Archeologie, die we allebei - spijtig genoeg - maar één jaar volhielden. Uiteindelijk was deze studie niets voor ons en beslisten we allebei om het volgende jaar iets anders te gaan doen. En dat bleek de beste beslissing ooit, want nu zijn we beide gelukkig met wat we doen. Tijdens dat jaar waren we elkaars beste vriend, of ik zal het anders zeggen: tijdens dat jaar was Ella mijn enigste vriendin. Verder kende ik niemand. Beetje bij beetje leerden we elkaar beter kennen en uiteindelijk kan ik toch wel zeggen dat Ella een goede vriendin is geworden en ik probeer zo veel mogelijk het contact te behouden. Maar het gaat hier uiteindelijk om de afspeellijst. Wat is hij goed! Toen ik Ella vroeg om een lijstje samen te stellen met tien liedjes, was ze is in - ik lieg niet - vijf minuten klaar, ook al kwam het lijstje pas een maand later op mijn blog. Ik had Ella gevraagd, omdat ik weet dat ze een goede muzieksmaak heeft en ik had gelijk. De lijst is gewoonweg zalig! Haar lijst stond bij mij zeker twee weken op repeat. Niet gelogen. Mijn persoonlijke favorieten: Freedom & Sunshine. Ella heeft mij gezegd dat het gewoon feelgood nummers zijn - of beter gezegd: het zijn/waren haar studeerliedjes. Ze heeft mij ook verteld dat Unchain My Heart van Hugh Laurie haar aan haar papa doet denken en dat ze van het liedje Freedom telkens opnieuw kippenvel krijgt. En ik kan haar geen ongelijk geven! In ieder geval: merci Ella en voor de lezers - geniet ervan! Tot de volgende.

Bombay Bicycle Club

Ok, ik weet dat Bombay Bicycle Club al een hele tijd bestaat en ik had al van hen gehoord, maar ik had nog nooit echt geluisterd naar hun muziek. Wat een schande eigenlijk. Ik was hun naam de afgelopen dagen een aantal keer tegen gekomen en ik besloot om hun muziek eindelijk eens op te zoeken. Woooojo! Wat zijn ze goed zeg! Vooral de twee eerste singles van hun nieuwste album, dat binnenkort uitkomt, zijn gewoonweg briljant! Wat een manier om een comeback te maken, ze zijn er namelijk even uit geweest heb ik ergens gelezen. De eerste keer dat ik de nummers luisterde, kreeg ik kippenvel. En na een aantal dagen staan ze nog altijd op repeat. Letterlijk. Deze twee nummers. De hele dag door. Oeps! Je leeft maar één keer hé! :D Door deze twee nummers kan ik ook niet wachten tot hun nieuwe album uitkomt. Natuurlijk ga ik het kopen! Ik ben nu ook bezig met hun oudere muziek te beluisteren en ik vind het echt zo een schande dat ik ze nu pas 'ontdek'. Echt helemaal mijn soort muziek! Natuurlijk komen ze ook naar België, om hun nieuwe album te promoten, maar natuurlijk ben ik te laat daarvoor. Alles uitverkocht. Dan maar hopen dat ze naar Werchter of Pukkelpop komen. Pretty please! Hopen jullie mee met mij? Ok goed, hieronder vinden jullie de twee nummers waarover ik zo enthousiast heb gesproken in deze post. Dans en zing mee! (yours truly is ook bezig ;))

PS: de clips van deze songs zijn ook fantastisch: de kleuren en het idee van "Luna" vind ik heel leuk en  de grafische uitwerking (lees: tekeningetjes op het scherm) van "Carry Me" vind ik super!

Plaatjes draaien met ...

Muziek is voor mij heel belangrijk. Ik hou er van om nieuwe liedjes en groepen te ontdekken, ik hou ervan om naar festivals en concerten te gaan en ik hou er van hoe muziek een slechte dag toch nog goed kan maken. Ik vind het ook heel leuk om de muziek van andere mensen te ontdekken. Welke liedjes luisteren ze, welke bands vinden ze goed? Op die manier ontdek ik ook weer nieuwe muziek. En daarom heb ik beslist om een nieuwe rubriek te starten op deze blog. Ik heb het idee van de leuke blog Laurapaulinek (zeker eens een bezoekje brengen). Het idee is dus dat ik iedere maand tien nummers van een vriend of vriendin op deze blog plaats. Het hoeven geen lievelingsnummers te zijn, dat mag, maar het mogen ook gewoon tien liedjes zijn die ze de voorbije maand(en) vaak beluisterd hebben. Ik heb de rubriek de volgende naam gegeven: "Plaatjes draaien met, ...." Leek mij wel passend. Voor de eerste keer begin ik gewoon met mijn tien nummers. De volgende maand (begin februari) is mijn goede vriendin Ella aan de beurt. De tien nummers die ik in een afspeellijst heb geplaatst zijn niet mijn all time favoriete nummers. Het zijn vooral nummers die ik de afgelopen maand veel heb beluisterd. Het zijn vooral singer-songwriter nummers, want daar luister ik dan ook voornamelijk naar, hoewel er wel enkele uitzonderingen bij zijn zoals 'Drink You Away' van Justin Timberlake en 'Rather Be' van Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne.

Ik hoop dat jullie deze rubriek een beetje tof vinden :) Ik vind het alvast een leuk idee. Veel luisterplezier gewenst met de allereerste "Plaatjes Draaien met, ..." ;) Tot de volgende!

Holy shit it's Bruno Mars!

Donderdag ben ik samen met mijn zus en mijn nichtje naar het concert geweest van de geweldige Bruno Mars in het Sportpaleis. We zijn alle drie een tamelijk grote fan en we keken al superlang uit naar zijn concert. De verwachtingen waren hooggespannen en Herr Bruno heeft die dan ook dubbel en dik ingelost! Wat een fantastisch concert was dat. Ik wist al dat hij een geweldig stel 'pipes' had, maar dat hij live zo goed zou zijn? Neen, nooit gedacht. Hij kan zingen, hij kan dansen (jawel dames) en hij is op een bepaalde manier best sexy. Wauw! Wat een beest, wat een entertainer, WAT EEN HELD! Waarschijnlijk zullen de recensenten, zoals gewoonlijk bij de meer mainstream muziek, zijn concert maar twee stereen geven. En normaal erger ik mij daar enorm aan, maar nu ga ik dat eens niet doen, want in mijn ogen was dit concert perfect! Van begin tot einde. Voila! En het was de eerste keer dat ik samen met mijn zus en mijn nicht naar een concert ben gegaan, en ik ben al naar veel concerten geweest, maar ik heb mij nog nooit zo goed geamuseerd als bij het concert van Bruno Mars. Daarom: een dikke merci aan Julie (mijn zus) en Margot (mijn nicht). Till next time, ladies!

En als ode aan Bruno Mars, en ook omdat ik nog aan het nagenieten ben van zijn passage in het Paleis, heb ik zijn ballad 'When I Was Your Man' gecoverd. Ik ben er best tevreden over. Ik hoop jullie ook :)  Veel luister plezier. En als Mijnheer Mars nog eens naar ons kleine Belgenlandje komt, you better go see him! 

Cover it up!

School still hasn't begun (not that I'm complaining :D), but that means that I'm practically all day long browsing through YouTube videos. Oops!  I watch all kind off stuff on YouTube, trailers, music videos, funny cats & dogs videos, videos of people falling, ... But, most of all I watch covers of songs. And I can do that all day. Guilty pleasures and all. But, this way I discovered a lot of good singers/musicians on YouTube through the years, who - I think - deserve a record deal. But hey who am I to decide? :) I am a great music fan and I think YouTube is a good instrument for the musicians as well as for the music lovers! Via YouTube you discover new music and new artists. So I'm pro YouTube! They just need to get rid of those adverts!

Wrecking Ball - Lily Elise & Julia Harriman (song originally sung by Miley Cyrus) 

Love love love Miley's new song. Great lyrics and she sings it with so much emotion. Love it! Don't love the music video as much as the song, but I understand why she did what she did. She's  telling a story with the video. So, I understand her choice. BUT: these two girls are amazing! The vocals are just - no words! Great great great cover! Nothing but love. 



Roar - Tyler Ward & Two Worlds (song originally sung by Katy Perry) 

Roar by Katy Perry - my anthem! What else can I say. Like I said in the previous blogpost, this song has helped me enormously, and it still does. It will always have a special place in my heart. I'm a huge fan of Tyler Ward and I follow him already for a few years. I think he is amazing. He sings, plays instruments, produces and now he is working on his album! Yeeeey. I saw him live a few years ago and  he is just the best! Love him. Also, the harmony on this song - whooow! :) 



Royals - I Want Altitude (song originally sung & written by Lorde) 

Love Lorde, just everything about her! She is 16 & her writing skills are just beyond! Yeah, I think this girls will be going places! I don't know the real name of the girl who sings the cover - I think she is called Andie?, but her voice - in love! Suits the song :) If you want to skip the intro & go directly to the song - go to the 1.28 mark. Cheers! 

Music, on!

School has started & that means that the new concert season will soon be starting, too. I am a little bit of a concert freak & it is a fact that my concert agenda is already pretty full. Just until December, after that it's a little too quiet for my taste. I still have to do something about that :) So if you have any concert suggestions for after January, let me know! :) In the beginning I was a little bit ashamed about the fact that I spent so much money on concerts, but then I thought: "What the hell, it's my life and I do what I want.' And concerts are pretty much the only thing on which I spent my money. So I'm not ashamed any more. I love it & I will keep going too as plenty concerts as possible!  So, I made a list of all the concerts that I'm going too so far this year, along my favorite song of that artist. Hope you enjoy the music!

17th of September - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Forest National, Forest 
I'm really looking forward to this concert. I'm a really huge fan of Macklemore & my sister saw him on Couleur Café in Brussels and she said that he was awesome. So yeah, I think that I will enjoy this one. Let's get this party started :D



17the of October - Bruno Mars - Sportpaleis, Antwerp
What can I say, it's Bruno Mars! He's groovy, sexy, makes fun & catchy songs and his voice is just amazing! What not to love? I'm going with my mom and sister. Front row dance party!

First of November - Crystal Fighters, - Vooruit, Ghent
Just discovered them and love them already! Pity that I didn't caught them on Pukkelpop this year, but now I get the chance to see them in November, so I'm not complaining. I heard from a few people that they are amazing live and that their concerts are always a party. So, I'm really looking forward to this one. 



5th of November - Tom Odell - Cirque Royal, Brussels
I saw him already in May and he is just amazing! Much better live than on cd. He is just something! His songs/lyrics are so real and moving and he sings with so much emotion. Yeah, I'm a really big fan. :) Maybe his voice isn't always spot on, but he makes it up with his enthusiasm. I hope he is as good as in May and now I also know more songs because his cd is out this time (which was not the case in May) - this means SING ALONGS! 

I just want to say one more thing. Daughter plays at the same time as Tom Odell. So it is a pity that I won't get to see Daughter, because of this. But it's a young band. Plenty of opportunities to see them the next time they're coming to Belgium.



25th of November - Queens Of The Stone Age - Sportpaleis, Antwerp
What can I say? They're the Queens. I just need to see them! Looking forward to the raw guitar solo's. 



29the of November - Imagine Dragons - Cirque Royal, Brussels
Fell in love with them when I heard their song Radioactive. Then I bought their album and it is just amazing! The first album that I bought where all the songs were equally good. Yes, I'm a fan of this band & I can't wait  for their concert. They have a good live reputation, so I think this will be a concert to remember.



4th of March - One Republic - Ancienne Belgique, Brussels
This is an amazing band that I wanted to see for a very long time and in March it is finally so far! I think Ryan Tedder is an amazing singer and an even greater writer. Love everything that he does. I think this concert will be absolutely stunning! Can't. Wait!

But I am doubting to go because I also want to save some money for traveling. So to go or not to go, that is the question. Of this three artists I really want to see Lewis Watson. I think he is amazing! Here Is my favorite song by him. Wouldn't want to keep that from you ;)

I wanna see you be Brave!

I know it's been a while (ok, not a while, a week) And I just wanted to let you know that I'm still alive and that I'm doing ok. And yeah, I just have a song to offer you guys. Not much, I know, but it is something. Well, it's Brave by the lovely Sara Bareilles. You know, the girl from Lovesong? Remember: I'm not gonna write you a love song cause you ask for it, cause you need one, you see... Yeah, I knew you would remember :) Nicely done, proud of you! Well, that song, Brave, has been playing on repeat these last few days. The lyrics are just so inspirational and well written and aaargh, it's just a very wonderful song that will lift your spirits up. It helped me anyway! So, if you listen well enough, I'm sure it will help you too! Also, the video of the song is pre-tty HIGHlarious, so you should def give it a watch! I promise that you won't regret it. Trust me on this one. Instant happiness assured!
